A salad kind of guy

I've been to Fifth Street Bar and Grill many times and enjoyed their burgers, fries, ribs, roast chicken (a bit dry sometimes) and pizzas (weird and wonderful). All hearty, tasty stuff, served in an informal, often-loud dining room (because of all the people packed in there enjoying themselves).

Ìý

Even though the burger and fries (they do real ones) definitely beckoned, I was feeling like I should prance off the well-trodden culinary path.

Ìý

So, I ordered a $10 dish that the menu described like this:

Ìý

Fire grilled eggplant, roma tomato and mozzarina saladÌýon mixed greens with balsamic reduction, herb infused olive oil and roasted garlic rock salt.

Ìý

The dish showed up with the mixed greens on top, with eggplant slices, tomato chunks and cheese slices hidden underneath. I was mostly enjoying it. The tomato pieces were sweet, the cheese had a nifty texture. The eggplant was a touch tough but still good.

Ìý

I offered a bite of cheese to Eating Companion No. 1, who had chosen the turkey medallions burger.

Ìý

He nibbled a piece of the cheese, made a face, and pronounced it disgusting.

Ìý

Until that moment, I'd thought the cheese was fine. But after that comment, the cheese didn't taste very good.

Ìý

The power of suggestion.

Ìý

(And, what's going on? Two restaurant meals in a row with no meat or anything deep fried.)
