In the past I walked, hiked, biked and skated. Now that I am older I just walk, and greatly enjoy it.
However, because I am deaf, I seldom hear others overtaking me, especially if there happens to be a headwind. Just once, a cyclist behind me rang a bell, and just once, a runner warned me: "Passing on your left."
This was both safe and courteous, and I appreciated their thoughtfulness. It is a practice which ought to be followed by all users of public pedestrian walkways, including operators of motorized scooters on sidewalks.
