A networked of shared e-scooters will be available in Vancouver this summer.

A new shared e-scooter system is expected to launch later this summer in Vancouver.

Shared e-scooter systems have existed in other ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½ cities for years, from Kelowna to North Vancouver, but regulations needed to be .

However, Vancouver will be catching up soon.

This week city council approved hiring Lime Technology to provide the system for five years. Lime runs similar systems around the world, with dockless e-scooters placed around cities. They can be found, unlocked and rented via an app.

A variety of safety measures are included, as well, including helmet selfies, training mode and no-ride zones.

The first neighbourhoods to get the system will be Hastings-Sunrise and Grandview Woodland neighbourhoods, according to the city.

“Vancouver is committed to more accessible and sustainable transportation options, so adding e-scooters just makes sense," said Mayor Ken Sim in a July 11 press release.

The City expects the system to be cost-neutral for the municipal government, with Lime responsible for the system from design to maintenance.
