VANCOUVER — The Lower Mainland’s Integrated Homicide Investigation Team is investigating a mysterious double homicide on the outskirts of Hope.

Just before 2:30 a.m. Sunday, RCMP from the Upper Fraser Valley regional detachment were called to a house on Othello Road, where two dead men had been found inside. It is in a lightly populated rural area just east of Hope.

IHIT spokeswoman Sgt. Jennifer Pound said it is unknown how long the men had been dead before they were discovered and police alerted.

“We still need to go into the residence and find out what happened ourselves,” Pound said Sunday evening. She added in a statement: “Our priority right now is to identify the victims and notify their families.”

Until their identities are known, the motive for the deaths will remain unclear. Pound said. IHIT and local Mounties were to remain on the scene into Monday.

An update is expected as soon as the victims have been identified and their families notified.

IHIT is asking anyone who may have information on the deaths to call their tip line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or email at [email protected]. Those who want to remain anonymous can leave a tip through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or online at solvecrime.ca.
