'Shocking' video shows transport truck blowing over on busy ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½ highway

"It's shocking watching it back."

A transport truck travelling on a busy ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½ highway was blown over during a vigorous storm on Monday.

Environment ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½ issued a wind warning on Nov. 4 calling for very strong northwest winds with gusts of up to 100 km/h.

Just before 1 p.m. that day, Alice Devisser was driving her children home from school on Highway 1 in Chilliwack.

The left lane was blocked just before Annis Road.

"When I saw how close it was to the Annis Road exit, my 12-year-old son checked our camera footage on my phone and realized we could see the entire thing happen,” says Devisser.

Video taken from their property shows the moment the transport truck blows over in front of another vehicle and rolls into a grass area between the lanes on the highway.

"It's shocking watching it back,” she says. “You just hope and pray no one's hurt and thankful no other vehicles were hit by the semi."

BC Emergency Health Services was notified at 12:53 p.m. about the incident and two ambulances with primary care paramedics responded to the scene.

No one required treatment or hospital transport.

BC Highway Patrol investigated the incident.

Cpl. Michael McLaughlin says their investigation showed that the weather, specifically the wind, was a major factor in causing the driver to lose control.

“The driver is not facing any charges under the Motor Vehicle Act,” says McLaughlin.

No other vehicles were involved in the collision. The position of the truck required lanes of traffic to be closed in both directions to safely remove the truck from the roadway.

The driver was the only person in the truck and did not report any injuries.
