Workshops to help young entrepreneurs acquire businesses are being staged this week in Port Alberni.
Futurpreneur, a non-profit organization, is holding free events on Wednesday and Thursday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Best Western Barclay, 4277 Stamp Ave. Dinner is included.
The program will assist young people who want to start or buy a business in Port Alberni.
Participants will receive information on how to find a viable business that may interest them and how to approach and appeal to its owners.
They will learn how to put a deal together, do their due diligence and will have a chance to practise negotiating.
The mock negotiation process will educate them in how to close a deal. They will also understand how to structure and obtain funding and learn about Furtupreneur’s options for funding.
“As boomer entrepreneurs continue to retire, they leave a massive gap in the labour market, thereby creating a unique opportunity for young entrepreneurs to enter the world of entrepreneurship,” the organization said in a statement.
Futurpreneur assists young entrepreneurs with loan financing, mentorship and resources. It has worked with about 18,700 entrepreneurs to date.
The upcoming events are supported in part by the Rural Economic Diversification and Infrastructure Program through the Ministry of Jobs, Economic Development and Innovation.
