ѻý Ferries says it is suspending all food services on board ships and in its terminals, with the exception of northern routes, which will have limited offerings.

It says customers are increasingly choosing not to buy grab-and-go items during the COVID-19 outbreak, resulting in “tremendous” food waste. Vending machines will still be available.

The corporation donated perishable food items to an Esquimalt food bank that also serves meals. On Thursday, the Rainbow Kitchen picked up more than 2,400 pounds of food from Swartz Bay.

The food, including mashed potatoes, coleslaw and fresh produce such as cucumbers and onions, came from five ships and Lands End café.
