Canadian August auto sales climb 6.4 per cent

Following a strong July, Canadian auto sales continued their robust pace in August, rising 6.4 per cent to 149,301 units. Passenger cars returned to strong positive growth, increasing 8.

Following a strong July, Canadian auto sales continued their robust pace in August, rising 6.4 per cent to 149,301 units.

Passenger cars returned to strong positive growth, increasing 8.7 per cent in August after declining slightly in July, while truck sales advanced 4.6 per cent compared to August 2011, according to the Association of International Automobile Manufacturers of ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½.

"What we are seeing is a highly competitive marketplace and consumers capitalizing on both the aggressive pricing arising from the competition in the marketplace as well as significant year end discounts," said David Adams, President of AIAMC.

Chrysler ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½ says August sales are up nine per cent from a year ago - their highest mark for the month since 2000.

? Audi - 1,568, up 7 per cent

? BMW- 3,181, up 11.8 per cent

? Honda- 13,663, up 43.7 per cent

? Hyundai- 11,717, up 1.8 per cent

? Jaguar Land Rover - 372, up 31.9 per cent

? Kia- 7,682, up 32.4 per cent (Record August)

? Mazda- 6,772, up 3.7 per cent

? Mercedes-Benz- 2,493, up 8.4 per cent

? Porsche- 251, up 43.4 per cent (Record August)

? Subaru- 2,680, up 43.9 per cent

? Suzuki- 511, up 15.1 per cent

? Toyota- 17,556, up 25.3 per cent

? Volkswagen- 5,782, up 34.4 per cent
