The managing artistic director of an Oak Bay performing arts college is stepping down after a six-year tenure that included breaking box office records and steering the college through the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Caleb Marshall, who is originally from New Brunswick, will be leaving the Canadian College of Performing Arts in mid-June to serve as managing director of Festival Antigonish Summer Theatre and Theatre Antigonish in Antigonish, Nova Scotia.
“We had hoped to continue working with Caleb, as his leadership has been exceptional, but understand family and opportunity come first,” said college board chair Roxanne Helme in a statement.
Marshall oversaw popular shows such as last year’s run of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at the McPherson Playhouse, the college said in a statement.
Danielle Meunier will be the college’s interim artistic director while the board begins a nation-wide search for Marshall’s replacement.
Meunier, a London and Vancouver-trained classical singer, has been the college’s director of education since 2021 after returning from a two-decade career in the U.K.
A permanent appointment is expected by the start of the next academic year.
The Canadian College of Performing Arts — which received a nod from the lieutenant governor in 2022 for its contributions to ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½’s arts scene — has awarded more than 800 diplomas and certificates since it was established 25 years ago.
