Why: It’s unclear precisely what former Trailer Park Boys cast member Patrick Roach has planned for tonight, but if we’re using his previous Victoria performances as a yardstick, utter madness is a pretty good place to start. The actor/comedian, who played the character of Randy, always had foul-mouthed trailer park supervisor Jim Lahey by his side and up in his business during on-screen and in-theatre installments of the beloved the cult comedy — a bickering foil with which Roach mined comedy gold during the TV series’ 12 seasons. But the death of actor John Dunsworth (who portrayed Mr. Lahey) in 2017 adds an air of unpredictability to the future of the shirtless Randy. Rudderless, or rip-roaring and ready to go? Fans will find out tonight.
HARRY POTTER AND LITERARY THRILLERS

Why: Several top composers, including John Williams and Alexandre Desplat, were assembled to write scores for the Harry Potter film franchise, which bodes well for a pair of concerts fêting the films and other spooky delights this weekend. Sean O’Loughlin, principal pops conductor for the Victoria Symphony and a former Williams associate, is the perfect anchor around which to base programs that will take fans on a trip through the musical worlds of everything from vampires and werewolves to Peter Pan and Hobbits. The Victoria Symphony will be in good hands, and patrons will be in for a treat.
CHALI 2NA & CUT CHEMIST

Why: Rapper Chali 2na doesn’t need Halloween as an excuse to rock a party, but the towering, big-voiced rapper — nicknamed the “verbal Herman Munster” — certainly has an applicable skillset for an event timed to the spooky season. Paired with his Jurassic 5 bandmate, Cut Chemist, there’s plenty of potential for this event to go supernova, and with Victoria duo LIINKS in the support slot, this showcase for Westwood Recordings (the boutique record label and booking agency co-owned by Victoria’s Nick Middleton) has few hip-hop peers. The electricity — and fun factor — will be considerable.
