Bruce McCulloch solo show in Victoria

Bruce McCulloch returns to Victoria Saturday night for a performance of Tales of Bravery and Stupidity, his acclaimed darkly humorous solo show that mixes newly written and previously performed material with site-specific improvisation.

The show is part of a three-date ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½ run for the actor, writer, director and producer, who is best known for his membership in The Kids in the Hall, the revered comedy collective. McCulloch, 63, and Kids castmates Dave Foley, Kevin McDonald, Mark McKinney and Scott Thompson returned to streaming services in 2022 with eight new episodes, reintroducing the Toronto troupe to a new generation 27 years after the original Emmy-nominated series aired for the final time on broadcast television.

McCulloch’s last performance in Greater Victoria was a 2021 show at the Mary Winspear Centre in Sidney.

Tickets for the performance are $28.75-$63.75 from the Royal McPherson box office (250-386-6121) or . Showtime is 8 p.m.

Guy Babineau book reading

Victoria author Guy Babineau is celebrating the release of his new book, Channel Surfing in the Sea of Happiness, with a reading at The Bent Mast lounge in James Bay on Tuesday.

Babineau, a former Georgia Straight contributor, has written about everything from the Stonewall riots to the origin of HIV/AIDS during his career as a longform journalist, threads of which are woven into this 272-page collection of absurdist fiction and heartfelt narratives.

With a decade-plus of experience as a fashion educator at three Vancouver schools (including the Visual College of Art & Design, Art Institute of Vancouver, and LaSalle College), Babineau has accrued enough experience to make Channel Surfing in the Sea of Happiness an intriguing prospect, to say the least.

The event starts at 7 p.m. The Bent Mast is located at 512 Simcoe St.
