Idol contenders try Trooper tunes

Victoria Idol contest finalists will sing songs by the rock group Trooper at a Christmas concert Tuesday. Tickets are $8 and $10 for the event, held at North Douglas Church, 675 Jolly Place, beginning at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $8 and $10 for the event, held at North Douglas Church, 675 Jolly Place, beginning at 7 p.m. The performers will also sing Christmas carols.

This week, all 10 finalists assembled at Oakstone Sound Studio to practise their Trooper tunes, coached by the band's bassist, Scott Brown. Video segments of the rehearsal will be screened before each contestant's performance on Tuesday, said Maria Manna, Victoria Idol's producer.

All proceeds from Victoria Idol events benefit PEERS, a resource society for sex trade workers. The winner of Victoria Idol will be chosen a Jan. 12 at Alix Goolden Hall.

The finalists are: Clint Hanson, Megan Johns, Noa Southcott, Alexandra Pike, Chenoah Ramsey, April Reidie, Cory Owens, Ellen Hall, Brayden Leclair and Ashley Armstrong.
