Thanks largely to the movie Julie and Julia, Mastering the Art of French Cooking, Julia Child's masterpiece cookbook that was first published in the 1960s, has become a huge bestseller. Stores are selling more copies in a month than they sell in a year, and they're running out. Amazon in ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½ and the U.S. has had it on back order for several weeks. Here's a story from The New York Times.

I've been searching for kitchen tongs that don't pinch. I can't find the basic kind that has a metal loop at the hinge to keep the tongs closed. Only fancy ones that pinch seem to be available at consumer-level stores around Victoria -- ones that unleash with a button or a lever.

Saw a BBQ digital temperature gauge at Home Depot for $89.99, under the Weber brand. It's the kind that has a probe on the end of a wire that goes into a digital display. I've seen similar ones . Not sure why this one is so expensive. Maybe it has a transmitter, so that you can carry the digital display and enjoy some time with your guests, instead of hovering at the BBQ. The box doesn't boast that feature in text, but a photo suggests it.
