Lighted ships, lighted trucks and lighted trees usher in the holiday season this weekend.
Saturday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Inner Harbour's Ship Point the 19th annual Lighted Ship Parade includes a holiday night market featuring local artisans' holiday wares, carolers, hot chocolate, coffee, candy canes, maybe even a visit from Santa Claus. Twenty-five lighted ships will make a slow loop of the Inner Harbour beginning at 7 p.m.
The Island Equipment Operators Association's 10th annual Truck Light Parade and Food Drive leaves Ogden Point at 5:45 p.m. Saturday, reaching downtown about 7 p.m. after a loop through Oak Bay Village where their will be musical entertainment and treats. The trucks cruise by Cook Street Village on Dallas Rd. about 6 p.m. Visits from Santa, a llama, clowns, carolers, and lots of other seasonal fun is scheduled for Cook Street Village Saturday from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
The Lighted Truck Parade and Santa are scheduled to arrive at Western Speedway at 8:30 p.m. Admission is by cash or food donation. Hot dogs, coffee and hot chocolate will be available on site for a donation.
Food collection sites for the Mustard Seed Food Bank are set up along the truck parade route. Maps of the route donation sites are available at www.ieoa.ca. Call 250-382-4362 for more information.
Milner Gardens, 2179 West Island Highway in Qualicum Beach, will light up thousands of Christmas lights this weekend, Dec. 12-14 and Dec. 18-21.
