The death of a man found in a wooded area in Nanaimo last week is being treated as homicide by police.
The body of Lee Harland, 42, was found by the railway tracks near the intersection of Kennedy Street and Comox Road behind the curling rink on Sept. 12.
“Based on evidence found to date,” the death is now being considered a homicide, Nanaimo RCMP said in a statement.
No further details were released.
RCMP said Harland, who had been living in Nanaimo in a “transient lifestyle” for some time, was wearing a dark-coloured shirt at the time of his death.
He had no fixed address and was known to have frequented homeless encampments in the area, police said.
Police are asking for dash cam footage taken Sept. 9-12 of the area where Harland’s body was found.
Anyone who may have known Harland or had recent contact with him is asked to contact Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345.
