Nanaimo RCMP made a quick arrest after being called to a parking lot in the 200-block of Franklyn Street Monday morning where tires on 20 vehicles had been slashed overnight.

Soon after, three more vehicles with slashed tires were located nearby in the 300-block of Selby Street.

Police looked at surveillance video from the parking lot and saw a man get out of a car and walk from vehicle to vehicle early Monday slashing tires.

A short time later, an officer saw a car identical to the one in the footage parked near the crime scene, and determined the name of the registered owner and his address.

Police went to the address and identified a person there as the man in the video.

He was arrested without incident and later released from custody for a future court appearance.

The investigation is ongoing, with criminal charges forthcoming.

Police are requesting anyone with video, dashcam, or home-surveillance footage from the 200-block of Franklyn between midnight and 1 a.m. on Monday to call Nanaimo RCMP 250-754-2345.
