A noise-flash diversionary device was used in the arrest of a woman in Esquimalt on Tuesday evening.
Victoria police said officers, with assistance from the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team, made the arrest in the area of Esquimalt Road and Joffre Street.
Police said the suspect was in a vehicle that was pulled over at the time of arrest, but provided no other details.
Witnesses described on social media seeing a “smoke bomb” and officers with automatic rifles pointed at a parked car as the driver slowly opened the door. A police dog was also said to be on the scene.
Youth on the nearby No. 26 bus were described as crouching on the ground amid the explosive noise and takedown. A grey compact car at the scene was later towed away.
