Comox Valley RCMP are asking for witnesses and dashcam footage as they investigate a Monday hit-and-run incident where a skateboarder was struck by a vehicle and reportedly thrown over the hood.

The 60-year-old victim sustained serious injuries but is expected to recover, police said.

The incident in the 3000-block of Comox Road near a Gas N Go service station was reported to police about 5:20 p.m.

The victim said he was passing the Gas N Go when he was hit by a vehicle turning left into the business, said Const. Monika Terragni.

“The driver reportedly exited his vehicle and offered to take the victim to the hospital. However, he fled eastbound on Comox Road after sirens were heard approaching.”

Witnesses described the suspect as in his 50s and about six feet tall with an average build and light-brown thinning or balding hair.

The vehicle was described as a black, mid-2010s Chrysler 200.

Witnesses said they did not observe obvious damage to the vehicle, but police said it’s likely the collision caused scratches or small dents.
