Power mostly restored after crash in Sooke; district warns of traffic delays

More than 6,000 people were without power Thursday morning after the crash, but only 166 were still affected by 10 a.m.

A vehicle hit a utility pole on Sooke Road near Church Road early Thursday, knocking out power to more than 6,000 BC Hydro customers in the area.

Power was restored to most people by 10 a.m.

Island RCMP said a call came in around 6:12 a.m. about a vehicle hitting the power pole. The crash brought down power lines.

A said one person was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Church Road remained closed at Highway 14 until about 3:30 p.m.

BC Hydro crews were expected to remain on site all day, with flaggers directing traffic in the area, and some delays expected.

BC Hydro’s showed two overlapping outages: one west of Sooke Road and north of Gatewood Road, and another west of Alderbrook Ranch Road and north of Maple Avenue.

I, the Sooke School District warned of traffic delays but said all schools were expected to be open Thursday morning.

The District of Sooke said further updates will be provided as information becomes available.
