The gathering at Government House yesterday afternoon was scarcely less brilliant than that of the previous evening. The attendance was very large.
Her Royal Highness and the Marquis of Lorne received in the billiard room, shaking hands with the guests as they were announced, and conversing freely with all.
Many of the ladies were elegantly costumed, and the grounds presented a beautiful and animated appearance as the groups moved to and fro through the shrubbery or gathered on the lawn to engage in lawn-tennis and croquet.
The ballroom was thrown open and the younger guests worshipped at the shrine of Terpsichore until the hour of six arrived, when all took their leave.
The drum and five band from H. M. S. Kingfisher and the Militia Band supplied excellent music on the grounds. The
Governor-General and Princess Louise are winning all hearts by their affability and kindness and the interest which they manifest in all that concerns this people.
