A Langford man accused of killing his mother in 2021 appeared in ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½ Supreme Court Thursday as his trial, which was expected to start this week, was put off to early next year.

Ryan Robert Elder is charged with second-degree murder in the death of 59-year-old Raymonde Elder.

She was found dead in her Selwyn Road home at Arbutus Ridge Estates mobile home park on New Year’s Eve in 2021, after police conducted a wellness check requested by her brother when she did not show up for work.

Elder, who lived with his mother, had struggled with mental-health issues.

On Thursday, Elder opted to be tried by a judge alone, instead of a judge and jury.

He will remain in custody until his trial, which is scheduled to begin on Jan. 13, 2025.
