The 2023 Vital Signs citizen survey for the capital region is out now. When you share your opinions, and voice, it goes a long way to produce an inclusive snapshot of the quality of life in Greater Victoria.
Vital Signs is a ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½-wide, community-driven data program that uses information gathered from survey responses to gauge the vitality of a community. The data collected through the program is used to support local solutions to improve the quality of life at the community level. produces an annual Vital Signs report that connects philanthropy to community needs and opportunities. Similar reports are produced by community foundations across ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½.
Every response is equally valued, and when you share your opinion, there’s impact in sharing the survey with family, friends, colleagues and more. When more voices are heard, a more accurate, inclusive snapshot of the local community is produced.
Here are five good reasons to take the Vital Signs survey and share it with others:
1. You can share your opinions on a range of important topics
The Vital Signs survey asks questions on 12 key issues areas including housing, standard of living, environmental sustainability, health and wellness, safety, transportation and more. This is your chance to have your voice heard, documented (anonymously), and incorporated into a snapshot of overall public sentiment.
2. It’s an easy, convenient way to voice your concerns and be heard
You can complete a short or long version of the Vital Signs survey depending on the time you have available. Your contribution helps measure the vitality of the region, identify concerns, and support action on issues that are critical to the quality of life.
3. Sharing the survey with others helps make the Vital Signs report more accurate
Hearing a range of opinions from diverse voices, such as young people and newcomers to the region, helps paint a clearer picture of the community and where it needs to improve. In last year’s report, the top three issues facing Greater Victoria were housing, cost of living and health care.
4. Represent the neighborhood where you live and encourage members of smaller communities to take part
No matter where you live in the Capital Regional District—from the peninsula to the western communities, to downtown Victoria and the southern Gulf Islands—you can represent your area and ensure the inclusion of voices from the community you call home.

Now in its 18th year, the Vital Signs survey helps the Victoria Foundation identify the needs of the community, connecting philanthropy to those needs and opportunities.
