Neighbourhood drives condo choice

With their sights set on relocating to Victoria BC from Montreal, Gary and Bev knew that finding a walkable location in an established residential neighbourhood was the most important factor in their search for a new west coast condo.

With their sights set on relocating to Victoria BC from Montreal, Gary and Bev knew that finding a walkable location in an established residential neighbourhood was the most important factor in their search for a new west coast condo.

鈥淲e didn鈥檛 want to live on Wharf Street by the water, or in James Bay. Near 聽and Fairfield is just ideal for us.鈥 said Gary. 鈥淵ou still have all the benefits of your own residential neighbourhood, but you can walk downtown in 10 minutes 鈥 how much better does it get than that?鈥

The couple recently purchased a condo at Bellewood Park. Currently under construction, the 83-home community is being developed by local award-winning builder/developer Abstract. Located at 1201 Fort Street, 聽is centred in a two-acre park-like setting amid a mature Garry Oak meadow in the historic Rockland Neighbourhood. The community will include two condominium buildings 鈥 Oaks: a six-storey steel and concrete building, and Cypress: a four-storey wood frame building. As well, there will be nine customizable townhomes which will face Pentrelew Place to the south.

Bellewood Park offers one, two, and three-bedroom homes, with prices ranging from $665,000 to $3 million. The development has received a positive response from purchasers both in Victoria and from other parts of 乌鸦传媒; half of the homes are already sold.

The couple learned about Bellewood Park after viewing several different condo buildings across the city.聽

鈥淲e came to Victoria quite green from Montreal and we fell upon Abstract and Mike Miller after nosing around with other developments and builders 鈥 this was the only one we seriously considered.鈥 said Gary.

Gary and Bev selected a 1300 sq. ft. two bedroom, two bathroom and den garden-level condo in the Oaks for the spacious outdoor areas, with two separate terraces and direct access to the community鈥檚 park surroundings right from the home.

鈥淔irst and foremost, being on the ground floor was important to us. We can walk off of our terrace right into the gardens.鈥 said Bev. 鈥淗aving a dog, this home lends itself to a much easier lifestyle - more like a townhome than a condo, but with the benefits of single level living.鈥

In their sixties, Gary owns a household textile company that allows him to work remotely from Victoria, using phone and email to stay connected to corporate operations in Montreal. Retired, Bev is looking forward to taking advantage of the west coast lifestyle. The couple plans to make Bellewood Park their final home.

鈥淲e鈥檙e not planning to move again. It鈥檚 the area 鈥 it鈥檚 great to walk around Rockland and Fairfield. We love going into the , it鈥檚 so peaceful there.鈥 said Bev. 鈥淵ou have the country, and the city at your fingertips.鈥 added Gary. 鈥淵ou can walk anywhere in the city, , Dallas Road and the waterfront. Victoria is a wonderful walking city, and Bellewood Park is the perfect place to discover it from.鈥
