People who live in Greater Victoria cite many reasons for liking where they live: the natural beauty, the temperate climate, the architecture, the walkability, among other attributes.

People who live in Greater Victoria cite many reasons for liking where they live: the natural beauty, the temperate climate, the architecture, the walkability, among other attributes.

However, like many Canadian cities, there are social issues that negatively impact the lives of many across all sectors and demographics.

聽vision is that everyone in the community should have the opportunity to reach their full potential. United Way believes that when social issues get noticed, they are less likely to be overlooked. Integral to United Way鈥檚 work is their focus on the #UNIGNORABLE, complex social issues such as poverty or addiction.

United Way tackles long-term complicated issues by working collaboratively with donors, both individuals and businesses, sponsors, the labour movement, government and social service providers. This collaborative approach, together with thought and action leadership, also enable the non-profit to respond to emerging needs like the opioid crisis.

For 82 years, United Way has been tackling local 聽issues. It is important to note that all dollars raised stay here in the Greater Victoria region. Last year, more than $3.68 million dollars was invested into a network of local programs and services to help people in need.聽 Because people in need often require more than one program or service, the charitable organization takes an integrated approach to their community investments.

鈥淲e are incredibly grateful to the generous support of our donors,鈥 said , CEO, United Way Greater Victoria. 鈥淣one of the work we do in the community would be possible without it. Last year, we helped 80,000 people change their lives for the better.鈥

United Way Greater Victoria鈥檚 service area extends from Sooke, the Westshore, Victoria and neighbouring municipalities, and throughout the Saanich peninsula to Sidney and the Southern Gulf Islands.
