Landon Mackie picked the perfect time for his first goal of the ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½ Hockey League season.

With his Victoria Grizzlies teammates reeling after allowing the Nanaimo Clippers to draw even with two straight goals, Mackie banged home a rebound with nine minutes left in the third period that restored the Grizzlies’ lead and paved the way to a 3-2 victory at Frank Crane Arena that improved Victoria’s early-season record to 5-0.

Malcolm Green and Reegan Hiscock scored in the first period for the Grizzlies, but the Clippers (2-3-1-0) fought back with a Cole Lonsdale goal late in the second period and a Chase Hull marker early in the third.

Netminder Tyler Hodges pushed his record to 4-0 with 28 saves, while Chazz Nixon made 40 saves in the Clippers’ goal.

The Grizzlies head back out on the road today when they head to Port Alberni to take on the Bulldogs.
