S-Kings help in breast cancer fight with Pink in the Rink Night tonight

The Victoria Salmon Kings second annual Pink in the Rink Night will be held tonight at 7 p.m. in the Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre when they take on the Las Vegas Wranglers. The event is a fundraiser in the fight against breast cancer.

The first 3,000 fans to make a donation to the ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½ Cancer Foundation tonight will receive a limited edition scarf.

The Salmon Kings will have 2,000 pink scarves and 1,000 grey scarves on hand. The money raised through the foundation will stay on Vancouver Island in support of the ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½ Cancer Agency's Vancouver Island Centre.

The Salmon Kings are donating a portion of each group ticket sold tonight, as well as all proceeds from tonight's 50/50 draw and chuck-a-puck to breast cancer research.

Last year the they raised nearly $2,500 in ticket sales and $13,000 overall was donated to breast cancer research. As an incentive, the winner of the chuck-a-puck contest will receive an all inclusive seven-night trip for two to the Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda on Mexico's Mayan Riviera.

The Salmon Kings players will show their support by wearing pink ribbon patches on their jerseys and pink ribbon stickers on their helmets.

The coaching staff will wear pink ties and pins during the game.

The first intermission will feature Island Savings Cold Cash Money Dash. There will be $2,000 in loonies scattered on the ice, while two participants have one minute to collect as many loonies as possible. Whatever they collect, they keep with Island Savings donating matching amounts to support breast cancer research on the Island.

Murphy's Wall-beds will be on site displaying a customized Salmon Kings wall-bed to be raffled off with all proceeds going toward the ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½ Cancer Foundation.

The Sticky Wicket Bar at the Strathcona Hotel is also donating 50 cents to the foundation from every Pipers Pale Ale sold tonight. The ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½, CHEK TV, Hillside Shopping Centre, Coca- Cola, Island Savings and 107.3 Kool FM are among the other sponsors of the Pink in the Rink Night.
