After seeing their 19-game winning streak come to an end a few days earlier, the Victoria Shamrocks got back to winning Sunday, at just the right time.

The Shamrocks, backed by a 50-save performance from netminder Chris Origlieri, defeated the New Westminster Salmonbellies 8-4 at The Q Centre to take a 2-1 series lead in their Western Lacrosse Association semifinal playoff series. Victoria can wrap up the best-of-five series with a win tonight at Queen’s Park Arena in New Westminster.

Mathieu Gautier and Marshall Kings each had two goals to pace the Shamrocks’ offence on Sunday. Patrick Dodds, Casey Wilson and Cole Pickup had the other Victoria goals.

If a fifth-and-deciding game is needed in the series, it will be played Thursday night at The Q Centre in Colwood.

In the other WLA semifinal series, the Langley Thunder punched their ticket to the WLA final thanks to a 7-6 victory over the Maple Ridge Burrards in Game 4 on Monday night at the Langley Events Centre.
