Victoria Grizzlies stymie Capitals again

Apparently, a pair of games against the Cowichan Valley Capitals was just what the doctor ordered for the Victoria Grizzlies.

For the second consecutive night, and fourth time this season, the Grizzlies defeated the Capitals on Saturday, this time by a 3-0 score in front of 2,015 fans on Buddy Check for Jesse Night at The Q Centre.

Heading into Friday’s Grizzlies’ win in Duncan, Victoria (9-10-1-2) had lost four games in a row, but thanks to the strong goaltending of rookie Oliver Auyeung-Ashton and some timely goals, the Grizzlies have back-to-back wins and jump over Alberni Valley for fourth in the Coastal Conference.

On Saturday it was Auyeung-Ashton making 26 saves for his third shutout of the season, and Olivier Picard, Justin Gibson and Luc Pelletier, into an empty net, supplying the offence to help Victoria drop Cowichan Valley to 6-13-1-1 on the season and 1-2-1 under new GM/head coach Mike Vandekamp.

The Grizzlies now have a few days off before heading to Port Alberni on Friday to face the Bulldogs.
