TORONTO — ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½'s main stock index fell in late-morning trading as the industrial and telecom sectors traded lower, while U.S. stock markets also posted losses.
The S&P/TSX composite index was down 57.55 points at 24,953.22.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was down 73.43 points at 43,195.51. The S&P 500 index was down 38.71 points at 5,878.27, while the Nasdaq composite was down 165.12 points at 18,822.35.
The Canadian dollar traded for 71.40 cents US compared with 71.53 cents US on Tuesday.
The January crude oil contract was up 13 cents at US$69.37 per barrel and the December natural gas contract was up 14 cents at US$3.14 per mmBTU.
The December gold contract was up US$21.50 at US$2,652.50 an ounce and the December copper contract was up a penny at US$4.16 a pound.
